A retired Oakland Police Department Captain who is in his 80s is to be charged with a sex-crime in relation to a long-running sex scandal that has allegedly involved several Bay Area law enforcement agencies.
The retired captain is being charged with a misdemeanor violation of soliciting a prostitute, although his identity is not being revealed until he has been formally charged.
The Contra Costa County District Attorney Mark Peterson confirmed that no other police officers will now be charged because of insufficient evidence that any crimes were committed.
The woman at the center of the sex scandal, Jasmine Abuslin, revealed that all of her encounters with police officers were consensual and happened while she was over the age of 18. She also said that no money was ever exchanged.
However, it was also revealed that one of the six other officers investigated in the case exchanged Cheetos for sex with the former hooker, although none will face charges.
‘There were no crimes involved in those incidents,’ District Attorney Mark Peterson announced at a news conference on Friday.
He revealed that in one instance investigators found ‘Cheetos were exchanged for sex’ with Absulin.
The officers had likely been trying to dig up dirt on Absulin and it was found that three of them who were themselves investigated had accessed her criminal records, although no crime appears to have been commuted.
‘We were unable to prove any of that was unlawful,’ Peterson said. He added that the officers accessed her records because of the teenager making 24 hours worth of statements across 19 interviews.
