Nigerian Air Force (NAF) fighter aircraft on Sunday repelled a Boko Haram attack on Nigerian troops in Kangarwa, northern Borno State.
In a statement on Monday signed by Group Captain Ayodele Famuyiwa, Director of Public Relations & Information, NAF said its action comprised three fighter jets and a reconnaissance aircraft which swung into action following a report about the militant attack.
“While the fighter aircraft were scrambled to repel the attack, the Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) aircraft was deployed to give guidance to ground troops on the position equipment and strength of the BHTs,” the report said.
Famuyiwa said the NAF response began at about 5p.m. and lasted until about 7:15pm before the attack was successfully repelled.

He also disclosed that prior to repelling the attack at Kangarwa, NAF had conducted some day and night operations at Kashimeri, Tumbu Gini, Chukugudu and other strongholds from where the insurgents launch attacks on Bama and neighbouring settlements.
“The air interdiction missions were aimed at decimating the operational capability of the insurgents,” Famuyiwa said.
